Now the results of the referendum are known, much as I would have preferred an alternative outcome, I will be working to answer the people’s request to take the UK out of the European Union.
It is essential that we all now work together to ensure that we secure the best terms possible for UK business and services to access the EU single market, whilst not being a member of the EU.
My work over the past seven years on EU financial services legislation will stand me in good stead to work with my Westminster colleagues to ensure that the financial services sector in particular, finds a workable solution going forwards.
I will be in constant communication with the Welsh Assembly to see what can be done to limit the impact that this vote will have on the Welsh economy.
This vote is just the beginning of the hard work that we, as elected politicians must now undertake to answer the will of the British people.
